In October of 2005 Rick DiPietro suffered a concussion, not a real big deal,
expected to miss a few games…. but no one could guess it would snowball into what has to be one of the worst cases of injury plague the hockey world has ever seen. This is borderline curse, DiPietro has not been able to catch a break in his 10 year NHL career. Here is a list of his injuries throughout his career, including his most recent groin issue suffered last night. (this is the actual year the injury occurred, some during playoff time, some during the beginning of the next season):
2005: Mild concussion, bruised knee, sprained knee(missed 5 games).
2006: Sprained knee, groin, lower body injury.
2007: Neck, headaches (missed 8 games), knee.
2008: Knee(missed 3 games), hip surgery (missed 9 games), knee, lower body injury, knee surgery(missed 27 games), groin.
2009: Groin, swollen knee(missed 41 games), knee surgery.
2010: Knee surgery(missed 33 games), left knee injury (x2) (missed 22 games).
2011: 3 groin injuries, a facial injury (missed 20 games), a concussion.
Somebody get the man some duct tape, rubber cement, and a good wrapping in bubble wrap! In his 10 year career, DiPietro only has 315 games under his belt, with 820 games in 10 NHL seasons, he’s only managed to play around 38% of those games. For a guy with 10 years or so to go in his NHL contract, it is hard to imagine that he makes it to the end of said contract. Note of advice from this writer, avoid Brent Johnson at all costs.
