- After a collapse of epic proportions last night against Nashville, it’s hard to
imagine that no changes will be coming to The Blue Jackets any time soon, but it’s not really that hard to believe. Scott Arniel, using his timeout on a icing call, just before The Predators started mounting their comeback with a goal. A bad call on the coaches part, and one has to wonder, all these late game collapses, do they fall on the coach? Even on the bench at times he looks completely lost. Now the players are not faultless, but a coach should be able to motivate his guys to play a complete game.
- Curtis Sanford has seen the goals against rise a little, but not to Steve Mason levels yet. (Sanford at 2.24, Mason at 3.66) But by all means, Mason should be getting the start next game. As great as Sanford has been for the team, he is beyond due for a break, and Mason, is beyond due for a start. If Mason wants his starting spot back, the time to earn it back is now.
- Ryan Johansen, where are you!? His last goal came November 12th, his last point, November 25th. Since that time, he hasn’t put up a point, is -4, but has 16 shots on goal. Don’t look for this streak to continue too much longer, he’ll find the net sooner, rather than later.
- Derek Dorsett, what in the world has gotten into you!? Not only are you
relevant, you are relevant and scoring! What could have sparked such a big change in him? A new diet? A new hat? Or perhaps he sat in the locker room and said “Well, it doesn’t seem like anyone else wants to take this team by the horns and work hard to win, so ill do it myself”. Whatever it is DD, keep it up, you are making the fans of The Blue Jackets proud.
- RJ Umberger, that guy we saw last season, we really miss him, please let him come back! He was something special last year, inspiring his team on and off the ice, what happened? He is far of course from his near 60 point season he had last year.
- And finally, Rick Nash. With a beautiful dangle last night that almost ended in a goal, showing a glimpse of what we rarely see, the old Rick Nash. The captain seems to be a shell of his former self. Yes he still can score, but, he doesn’t have that same presence on the ice that he used to. Other teams don’t really take notice of him anymore. His lack of effort is really showing, and it would be nice to see that guy that made other teams aware of The Blue Jackets on the ice, we have barely seen him this season.
